Short Bio

A re-emerging artist who found inspiration in the waste of the past, I incorporate beachcombing finds into my mixed media art.

Statement

Inspiration comes from the land and the sea, from the beauty that physically surrounds me. Walking with a sharp wind in my face and the cadence of crashing waves soothes racing and wandering thoughts, slowing them down and making them crisp. I find clarity when I walk along the shore, meander through hills and forgotten spaces. There I can embrace the wet, the cold, the empty and the night with renewed capability, even comfort. I can connect with those who have walked before me. The comfort hones my vision, creates purpose and mission, inspires creativity. It creates Love, Empathy, and Remembrance.

I want my art to connect with these essential, most human of feelings. Enabling the viewer to see what I see can hopefully unite them with the calm, with love for our planet, our past, and for all earth's creatures.

Biography

Jo Fry

Sea Glass and Ocean Artist/Owner Fierce Siren Studios

Beachcombing has rekindled the love that I have for writing, painting, and creating. Since 2020 I’ve had my art on exhibit in Bay Area Galleries, been a part of prestigious Art and Sea Glass festivals in California and authored three articles on glass and local history for the Half Moon Bay History Association. I founded Fierce Siren Studios in 2021 as an outlet for my paintings and ocean-inspired jewelry.

As a child I was always drawing. I won a competition in high school to develop our school logo, studied art and history at Birkbeck College, London and went on to earn a degree in Interior Design, graduating from San Jose State with honors. Real life, however, took priority over art and decades went by without me picking up a brush, creativity found being a volunteer art teacher at a local elementary school when my youngest was small.

I like to think of myself as a re-emerging artist who found beauty and inspiration in the waste of the past.
